SHAPESHIFTER with L.A.B & Sunshine Sound SystemOct
19Friday, Doors open at 5:30pm
Repelling any notions of seasonal affective disorder and heralding the onset of summer with a proper bang, Shapeshifter have assembled an exemplary summer line-up to bring it back to the Black Barn, Havelock North for two massive nights this October.
With a back-catalogue of seven albums (including 2016’s Top 5 smasher “Stars”) and a notorious live show that boasts enough bass to rock any place and a veritable visuals extravaganza, Shapeshifter are a band who know no limits. In the wake of a stunning new video for ‘Oculus’ – a tribute to the ability of music and dance to uplift amidst Christchurch’s regeneration – the anticipation is rising as to where they’ll take their sound next.
After a winter of writing and rehearsing fresh material in their studio, Shapeshifter are primed to unleash some brand new tunes among their live classics at these October crowds – a one-off opportunity to see the lads headlining their own show ahead of the summer festival season!
Joining the ‘shifters will be long-time amigos and multi-genre merchants L.A.B, plus the sublime stereophonic stylings of Sunshine Sound System.
L.A.B combines the legendary Kora brothers Brad and Stu, Katchafire bass boss Ara Adams-Tamatea and B2KDA’s Joel Shadbolt in a mighty blend of blues, funk, reggae and rock, as ably demonstrated on their self-titled debut album which topped the NZ iTunes Charts and entrenched the band as festival favourites in record time.
So permanently in the zone they basically ARE the zone, Sunshine Sound System are the preferential party starters, helmed by the endless crates and superior statesmanlike selections of Downtown Brown and crewed by the doublebarrel dynamics of MC’s KPZ and Switch.
