As part of the University of Waikato’s ‘O’ week 2020 Nexus presents Mako Road, Lee Mvtthews and Foley.

Indie-Rock outfit Mako Road have been tearing up the New Zealand music scene since their inception in 2017. Formed in Christchurch, New Zealand, the Wellington based group have amassed over 20 million streams online with their debut garage recordings. They have sold-out tours around New Zealand and Australia, played New Zealand’s biggest festivals, and supported acts such as Ziggy Alberts, Leisure and Shapeshifter. Their cruisy records translate into an electric live set that has wowed summer crowds over the 19/20 festival season.

Foley have made a name for themselves by acting out against the standard producer-vocalist two piece model; instead writing, performing and producing everything completely collaboratively. In an industry where female vocalists are often commoditised, it’s an important distinction to make.

Honest to a fault, Foley have quickly picked up a fanbase of young like-minded listeners for their fun-loving attitude, and genuinely unbreakable friendship.

Foley have graced New Zealand’s largest New Year’s festival Rhythm & Vines 3 times, most recently playing a main-stage slot on New Year’s Eve. The pair have also shared the stage with Two Door Cinema Club, Flight Facilities & Crooked Colours at indie fest Spring City as well as Six60’s stadium show in Hamilton in early February.

Lee Mvtthews, aka, Graham Matthews and Tom Lee met in 2012 and started working together after discovering they had a nearly identical taste in music, eventuating in Lee Mvtthews in late 2013. Since then, they’ve gone from strength-to-strength, gaining a reputation for turning out infectious tunes that pair colourful melodies with bass-driven drops.

Lee Mvtthews have become a favourite in the New Zealand festival circuit, playing regularly at the likes of Rhythm & Vines, Bay Dreams, Homegrown, Springbreak Fiji, as well as headlining shows up and down the country. In their hometown of Auckland, New Zealand their 'Lee Mvtthews and Friends' series has amassed attention, hosting Australian acts like Leotrix and Badrapper.

In addition to this, they have become a go-to support act, starring on line ups with an array international talents such as Slumberjack, Jauz, Sigma, and Borgore, as well as being asked to support local legends, Shapeshifter.
