Transvision Vamp
British pop rock band Transvision Vamp are bringing their late 80’s hits down under for the first time in almost three decades. With shows in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch lined up for February 2026, the group will be playing their nostalgia-filled favourites.
Formed in 1986, Transvision Vamp quickly rose to fame. Their songs 'Baby I Don’t Care', 'Revolution Baby', 'I Want Your Love', 'The Only One' and 'If Looks Could Kill' all hit the Top 50 in the New Zealand singles chart from 1988 - 1991. Wendy James, the lead singer and focal point of the group, attracted media attention with her sexually charged and rebellious image.
Transvision Vamp became known for their collision of brash punk and commercial pop, and joining James on this tour are some musical luminaries: Alex Ward (The Thurston Moore Group) on guitar, Dave Parsons (Transvision Vamp) on bass, and James Sclavunos (Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds) on drums.
Wendy James went on to pursue a successful solo career spanning an additional seven studio albums, including a notable collaboration with Elvis Costello. She served as a feminist symbol in the 80’s for unapologetic self-expression and fearless leadership.
James says ”I am so excited to be coming back to New Zealand to play the songs which started my whole musical journey!”
